The National Accredited Certification Scheme for individual gas fitting operatives came in August 1998 to replace ACOP.
Since then, anyone without a valid ACOP or ACS certificate considering undertaking work with gas, must first prove their competence by undertaking the appropriate ACS assessment.
The assessment includes practical tasks and theory tests with the theory element structured in the form of multiple choice questions – both open and closed book, the former where reference material may be used and the latter none. On completion of the assessment, the paperwork is sent to the appropriate governing body and if satisfactory, a five year certificate will be issued.
A further assessment must be undertaken prior to the end of the certified period if the fitter wants to continue working with gas. To learn how to prepare for your assessment, click here
